The Southern States Super Regional Championship is happening this Saturday in Richardson. It’s hosted by the United States Yoga Federation (USA Yoga), a non-profit (501(c)3) organization dedicated to the development and promotion of Yoga Asana as a sport,

Adult women and men, senior women and men, and youth will be competing at this event. Competitors qualified via a local event or video submission. They will perform six postures performed in three minutes. The first four are compulsory, and are from the categories of forward compression, backward bend, stretching and spine twist. The other two postures are optional chosen by the athlete from an approved list of postures. The event features competitors from: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.

Yoga Asana competitions originated in India hundreds of years ago and are still being conducted there today. USA Yoga believes that the sport of Yoga Asana will inspire many of these practitioners to improve their practices and encourage many newcomers to take up the practice of yoga and the sport of Yoga Asana.
