Looking for a low-impact and social fitness activity? The Plano Walking Club, (formerly the Plano Plodders) founded in 1982, is dedicated to promoting walking for health and fitness. The club is associated with the American Volkssport Association (AVA). The word “volkssport” comes from a German term that literally means “sport of the people.
Members of the club walk the Chisholm Trail starting at Schimelpfenig Library (5024 Custer Road, Plano). The 11km group departs at 7am and the 7km group departs at 8am (6:30am and 7:30am June – early September). The two groups join up along the way, complete the walk and go out for a hearty breakfast and conversation.
There is also a Tuesday group that walks from around February to the end of May and then starts up again in late September. Group members also participate in other walks in the DFW area and other parts of Texas.
Visit their website for specifics and contact information. They recommend emailing or calling before you join the group, to confirm they will be walking that day.
